In September 2030, a new class of transport ships, the Macross Colonization ships, were first manufactured to replace the Megalord transports formerly in use. The objective of these ships, according to the Earth United Government, was to carry colonists into the unexplored galaxy and discover and settle habitable planets. These colonists include both humans and Zentradi. Colony ships could carry up to one million colonists.

The Macross 7 fleet set out from Earth in 2038, being the seventh of the colony ships to be built. The fleet consists of the following ships:

BATTLE 7: fleet military flagship

BEGINHILL: training ship

CITY 7: fleet civilian flagship

EINSTEIN: science ship

HOLLYWOOD: entertainment ship

HEAVEN: cemetery ship (from Macross 7 Trash)

IOWA: food supply ship

MARK TWAIN: resort ship

RIVIERA: marine resort ship

SUNNY FLOWER: agriculture ship

THREE STAR: factory ship

The MILKY ROAD connects the different ships of the Macross 7 fleet. A semi-defined intership "highway" more than anything else, it is really simply a lighted trail that guides vehicles from one ship to the next, with City 7 as the center of the hub. It's also a hot spot for the various motorcycle gangs of City 7, most notably the all-female Rex gang. The Milky Road was destroyed when City 7 was separated by the fleet by the Protodeviln.
