MACROSS 7

FIRE BOMBER

They are the heart and soul of Macross 7...the saviors of the fleet...the bringers of Song Energy...the pilots of Sound Force...FIRE BOMBER!

Fire Bomber are:
NEKKI BASARA, guitar and lead vocals
MYLENE FLARE JENIUS, bass and backup vocals
RAY LOVELOCK, keyboard and band leader
VEFFIDAS FEAZE, drums

The music of this rock band is a powerful sound with audible energy flowing through it. Basara's singing is intense and focused, and Mylene's, though quieter, is no less energetic. Basara especially has a forward stage presence and a flair for the dramatic, and he often begins concerts by flying in on a parachute or glider. Ray Lovelock, the leader of the band, believes that music is for all to hear, and is not selective when choosing an audience, playing to young and old alike.

Fire Bomber had a quiet beginning: the audience at their first live in Katasumi Park, City 7, in 2045 was small, and their first single Planet Dance debuted at #196 on the Galaxy Network charts. Though Mayor Milia Jenius eventually endorsed the band and went out of her way to find gigs for them, opportunities were still few and far between.

But it soon became rather obvious that the lead singer and guitarist of the band was something more than your average ordinary rock star. At that time, the Macross 7 fleet was beginning to come under attack by the Protodeviln forces, and Nekki Basara was determined to show both sides that there was an alternative to fighting and that music could change hearts. He soon became known by both civilians and military forces as the guy who sang in the middle of the battlefield in his red Valkyrie, dodging fire with ease. The rest of Fire Bomber, especially Mylene Jenius, was not too happy with the fact that many times Basara would jump in his Valkyrie in the middle of a concert and take off.

Basara's singing did not escape notice from the top military officers aboard Battle 7. One officer in particular, Lieutenant Chiba, the military doctor, began studying the effects of Basara's voice on the enemy and soon concluded that there was something different going on. He identified the energy in Basara's singing as "Song Energy," and devised a system by which song energy could be harnessed. Song Energy was measured in units called "Chiba units." Chiba's plan was tested by Captain Maximillian Jenius by forming the civilian Valkyrie unit Sound Force, which consisted of all of Fire Bomber's members. Instead of fighting the enemy with conventional weapons, Sound Force would fight with Sound Energy.

At first, this experiment seemed a failure. The members of Sound Force could not seem to cooperate together in space, stemming from relational problems between the two vocalists, and Basara in particular was opposed to being under any sort of control from the military. But Dr. Chiba persevered, inventing a device called the Sound Energy Converter which could harness and focus Sound Energy into a visible stream of what looked like different colored light flowing from the singer. This device looked like a small space pack worn over the shoulders and was first tested by Mylene, who sang in place of Basara because he had lost his voice in one of the Protodeviln attacks. After Mylene used Song Energy to give Basara back his voice, it was obvious that Sound Force was a success.

Dr. Chiba also invented various other machines to enhance the power of Song Energy, including Speaker Pod Gamma, a huge missile-looking speaker which could be thrown from a Valkyrie to penetrate the sides of enemy ships, Sound Boosters, which attached to the shoulders of Sound Force's Valkyries to provide additional amplification, and Sound Busters, projectile speakers shot from Battle 7's Macross Cannon.

The nature of Song Energy remained unknown, but it was soon conceded by the military that Sound Force was the only way the Macross 7 fleet could be defended from the Protodeviln. Finally by piecing bits of information together, Dr. Chiba and the crew of Battle 7 found that Song Energy was not just another form of universal energy. It was, in fact, Anima Spiritia, the same spiritia that had been used to seal away the Protodeviln in the first Protoculture war millions of years before. Not only that, but Basara's Song Energy was pure anima spiritia.

As the Protodeviln war progressed, Fire Bomber became more and more popular as Basara and Sound Force's exploits were made known to the public. Soon, Fire Bomber was the Galaxy Network's top band, and Planet Dance was #1 on the charts. Even after the war ended, Fire Bomber continued to perform to sold-out audiences, people who understood Basara's message and the power of music.
