ORIGINS

One of the main characters of the original Superdimensional Fortress Macross, Milia Fallyna Jenius returns to the Macross universe as a middle-aged woman who has had seven children, risen through both the military and political ranks to become a legend, and, on the surface, has it all. Before becoming mayor of City 7, Milia held many military positions, including flight instructor. One of her students was Gamlin Kizaki.

PERSONALITY

Still as rash and hotheaded as ever, growing older seems to have added a bit of a self-righteous, desperate attitude to Milia's outlook in life. Perhaps it was the strain of her family or perhaps her ambition got too far ahead of her, but Milia is forever stressing herself out in order to stay one step ahead of everyone else, including her famous husband. Most of the time, her antics and ideas are used for comic relief in the series, but Milia can also be a very serious character whose stubborness to admit that she is wrong puts a strain on everyone around her. This trait has (very unfortunately for Basara) been passed down to her daughter Mylene as well.

APPEARANCE

Milia has cut her green hair since her SDF Macross days and now presents the image of a very proper woman serious about her political duties. She usually wears a conservative brown dress with patterns at the hem, an pastel blue shirt underneath with a tied scarf around her collar, and large gold earrings. However, there are times when she is feeling adventurous. Her flight suit is red, to match her Valkyrie's color, and she has other...interesting outfits through the series.

MAYOR

Milia is a very popular mayor; when she ran for reelection, she got almost 90% of the votes. This is most likely because of her larger than life reputation as a war hero and also as a Zentradi who married a human; the humans believe that she can protect them from any danger, and the Zentradi trust one of their own in the seat of power. Milia takes her job very seriously and is willing to act as anything from a conventional mayor to a Valkyrie pilot in order to keep her citizens living normal lives.

Her mayoral assistant Michael is a great help to her daily schedule, as he takes her phone calls, helps her with paperwork, brings her snacks, chases after Mylene, and even gives her backrubs. Milia spends a great deal of time nagging Battle 7 about its failure to provide her with complete information about everything that is going on, but even with this supposed lack of information, she still manages to find answers to every problem.

MAX

Her relationship with Max is a far cry from the fairytale love story that we saw in SDF Macross. The fairytale apparently lasted only as long as Milia could balance her family life and her public life. Throughout the series, she is constantly arguing with Max: berating him about his "failures" as a fleet captain, grilling him for details about the battles, and shouting at him because she believes that he is hiding things from her. Part of this concern is genuine, since she is the mayor and rightly believes that she needs to have information that the military has in order to make decisions. However, most of her arguments with Max come from the sheer fact that she always refuses to admit that she is wrong.

We are never quite shown what happened to drive them apart, and it's clear that Milia still loves Max very much, though she tries to hide the fact. Perhaps she believes that she can't have a successful career if she concentrates too much on her private affairs, and perhaps it was both of their intensely busy careers that made it happen. The only thing still holding them together through most of the series is Mylene.

MYLENE

Her youngest daughter is also the most troublesome. Mylene basically grew up on City 7, and with one parent as fleet captain and the other as mayor, Mylene was basically free to do what she liked. Milia worries about her daughter, especially when Mylene decides that she doesn't want to live at home with her mother anymore, moves into her own apartment, and joins Fire Bomber. Milia decides that the best thing to do is to find Mylene a good husband, and who could be better than her talented, famous, caring, sensitive, and loyal one-time student, Gamlin Kizaki?

VALKYRIE

Even now as a civilian, Milia still finds the time to fly. Especially with the Protodeviln invasion going on, she has an excuse to bring out her old VF-1 Valkyrie, both to impress the citizens and to brush up on some old dogfighting skills. Her former student Gamlin fiercely objects to this, saying that she should refrain from putting her life in danger. But of course, Milia can never refuse a challenge.
