Ivano Gunther was one of the top advisors of the United Earth government. He had been sent to the fourth planet of the Varautan system to negotiate with whatever lifeforms were hidden under the force field that had been discovered there. Before the main army units could arrive on the planet, however, Gunther was attacked by the leader of the Protodeviln, Gepernitch. Gepernitch managed to possess Gunther's body and then tricked the armed forces into entering the cave where he was sealed. He then proceeded to attack the troops, draining them of their spiritia and then turning them into mind-controlled forces, fighting at his command.
